NORTHEAST HERITAGE MUSIC CAMP
Info for Attendees -- The "Student Letter"

Folks,

Northeast Heritage Music Camp (NHMC) is just around the corner. If you are
receiving this email it is because you are registered. We are looking
forward to seeing all of you, so get your instrument ready, find a house-
sitter, and get well rested and healthy. Many folks are flying in from all
over the globe; some may need your help in getting to camp, so please pay
close attention to the Carpool information below.

CHECK-IN TIME

Check-in is from 2:00 to 4:00pm on Sunday. If you need to arrive after 4:00
please let us know so we don't worry about you. You can try Peter's cell
phone, 206-963-2634, or Ken's 781-316-5564, but cell-phones don't always work
there. You can always get a message to us through JSC at 802-635-1205.

You should plan to arrive as close to 2:00pm as possible to give yourself a
chance to settle into your room, check out the campus layout, and play a
tune or two before dinner and all the festivities begin in earnest.

When you arrive please:

1. Come to Senators North Dormitory to check in. There will be signs to
direct you there -- note that this is the same place we had check-in last
year. There you will get your room key.

2. Let Peter know you are here and make sure he crosses you off his list
and gives you a campus map and a schedule booklet. Find Ken and say "hi."

3. Make a name tag for yourself and start wearing it. More people will
talk to you if they don't have to grope for your name!

4. Settle in to your room. We have found that some room doors swing closed
& lock when you don't expect it (like at 2:00am), so keep your key with you...

5. After unloading your car you'll need to move it to our week-long
parking area. We'll let you know at registration.

6. Introduce yourself to your new neighbors.

7. Play a tune!

COMMUTERS: You can skip 1, 4, & 5, but be sure to do 2, 3, 6, & 7!

SUNDAY EVENING
Dinner on Sunday (at 4:30) is the first meal of the week. Shortly after
dinner there will be a brief faculty meeting (at 5:30). Then at 6:30 there
will be an Orientation and "Meet the Faculty" event. ALL students should
attend, since our instructors will describe both their classes and their
approach to teaching. Following the orientation and faculty introductions
we'll have an introductory contra-dance, and then
members of our staff will lead a couple of jam sessions at different levels.

MEALS
Breakfast is at 8:00 each day, lunch is at 12:00, and dinner is at 5:00 (except
on Sunday). Brunch on Saturday is at 9:00 and is the last meal of the week.

WHAT TO BRING:
                     ==> Please label everything! <==

Essential items

+ sleeping bag, or sheets and blankets, and a pillow. The College does not
provide linens. Let us know if this is a problem for you, and we may be
able to help.

able to help.

+ Toiletries, personal items (medicine, etc.)

instruments you might play, other than grand piano or church organ)

+ Spare sets of strings, rosin, finger picks, flatpicks, capos, instrument

+ Music stand

+ Cash or personal checks to buy CDs, instructional videos, books, and other
cool things from the artists' store (this might actually be an essential item).
Note that we can't take credit cards at the Artists' Store.

+ clothes hangers - there are closets, but no hangers.

+ Ear plugs for sleeping (if you're a light sleeper)

+ Small fan (it was REALLY hot the first year, but if you bring a fan it won't
be this year)

+ Munchies for late night and between meals snacking

WHAT TO LEAVE HOME:

+ Pets. JSC has a No Pets policy.

+ Electric instruments and drums. If you think you should be an exception,
talk to us.

everyday reality. Enjoy it!
